“Let’s hear a round of applause for a global Chhattisgarh,” the MC shouts from a large podium crowded with around 50 people – a mixed crowd of politicians, business executives and diplomats.
Naya Raipur is the state’s capital-in-the-making, soon set to replace Raipur, a non-descript town with bad roads and maddening traffic. The new city is part of the Chhattisgarh government’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and make the state more appealing to investors. Located 20 kilometers away from Raipur, Naya Raipur has new administrative buildings, colleges, apartment and even its own cricket stadium.
